Sometimes the biggest challenge to keeping with your goals are other people that serve as a distraction. One of the best examples for this is the topic of pet peeves. Every has different personalities in the office setting. Not unlike the popular TV show each personality has their own querkines and distractive qualities. This really becomes a problem if a person is your quintessential representative for many of your pet peeves.

In my office, there is a guy who is favored by management. He comes in late to meetings, arrives hours late to work, and is still favored in projects and time off. He embodies everything that I can think of in a lazy worker which is one of my biggest pet peeves. Today my biggest challenge was to stay focused while my largest walking and talking pet peeve tried to start conversations with me and everyone around me. It was a challenging day for sure.

The best way today for me to try and achieve my goals and keep my sanity was to put some headphones on play my favorite music and get to work. Without any scheduled meetings to get me away from my desk I was forced to deal with my problems as he sits just a few desks away. In my strife today I was reminded that things are not always easy and work in your favor of your goals. You should cherish each day when you have the opportunity to spend concentrated time on you work tasks and goals because some day your boss just might hire your very own living, breathing, walking embodiment of at least three of your pet peeves and insist that you work closely with that person.

Best in achieving your goals on this Friday!

There are many challenges to achieving our goals. We face them every day from missing a bus to work to our pets leaving us gifts on the floor. As they say, life moves pretty fast and in today’s tech driven world it is even more true. So I am here today to tell you STOP!!!

Stop frantically searching for that solution. Stop running around with no direction. Stop the madness in your life.

Now I don’t mean stop achieving or striving for your goals and objectives. I mean stop and take a minute to think. As people we often try to overpower our obstacles. Sometimes we need to just stop and think.

A ship always need to check its direction and change its path to the destination. So why don’t you? Take a moment and try to re-plan your attack. Remember it is more difficult to think under pressure. Especially when its self induced pressure.

One of my favorite past-times is sitting in coffee houses and getting work
done. Today I am at the local Starbucks enjoying a Pike’s roast and
listening what appears to be a jazz compilation music list. I have been told
that goal setting is easier in a relaxing atmosphere. Today this Starbucks
location is just the atmosphere I need.

Today I am focusing on physical and technology goals. As far as physical
goals, I have held a pretty good track record lately of keeping up with my
workout and nutrition goals which is pretty exciting considering my history
of past years. So my goals are mostly consisting of staying on task with
eating 6 healthy meals a day and working out 6 days a week. I know it sound
like quite a bit, but keep in mind I’ve worked up to this (starting back in
September of 2009).

My technology goals are more related to writing and sharpening my axe rather
than certifications at this time. I’m planning to post more articles to the
website and keep up with blog entries with postings like this one. The next
order of business is to go through my websites and make sure they are XHTML
compliant. It’s more of a self-perfection goal, but it is good practice in
any case. Well I better get to it!

Till Next Time. Happy Goal Setting

Morning Challenges to Goal Setting

Today is Sunday and I am looking to set my goals for today. As with any day, there are challenges to everything.

This morning I woke up before anyone in the house to try and get my day started off right with some goal setting. I started brewed my morning coffee started up my laptop and… low and behold my niece comes down the stairs and asks what I am doing. I told her that I am just having some coffee and doing some work. She smiled at me and sat down on the couch close to me.

My coffee needed a little bit more sugar so I proceeded to the kitchen to balance the bitterness of my coffee. She followed right behind me and stated said, “I’m a little hungry” . So we discussed breakfast options and decided on cereal. I prepared our morning cereal and, of course, the second niece comes down the stairs and asks for cereal as well. As I sat with my nieces, I though how lucky I am to have this experience on a relaxed Sunday morning.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, I noticed that my morning goal setting has been unexpectedly pushed back by full hour and a half. (So much for getting a jump start before anyone is awake for the day)

So here is my point point for this morning…. every day we have challenges. Most of them will be unexpected and some are happy serendipitous situations, others not as enjoyable, but as we move through our days it is still important to start off right. I have just finished taking a short fifteen minutes to set my goals for the day.

One of them being this blog post. = ]

We all have challenges, but remember goal setting helps you have guidance thorough your day and it only takes a few minutes a day. Keeping pushing forward and if you needed take that side-step but always remember to correct your course.
